‘Betty’

‘Betty’ is a sterling silver cast spider, on a gold gilt silver dish with burnt ash base. 

Sam Moore is interested in the ways in which women’s identity is often unseen and overlooked. The cast silver spider sculpture on a dish is a symbol of the ways in which women create and maintain pathways for themselves and others, both literally and figuratively. 

The spider as a maker of pathways has been seen as a symbol of female creativity and industriousness but also of the often ignored shadow side of femininity and darkness. 

This precious sculpture encourages women to explore a pathway to that shadowside and their identity.
