‘Pondering Hare’

Shauna McCann’s practice is concerned with the exploration of clay whilst also investigating the possibilities of a crossover of materials between glass, wood, stone, and metal. Most of her work is built with porcelain paper clay, yet she dips in and out of many ceramic processes from throwing to alternative firing techniques. Colour and texture are essential to produce her work. Shauna feels a great connection to working with a piece of the earth and by how the use of the other elements air, water and fire can transform a piece clay into the most wonderful creations.

With the combination of glass, enamels, oxides, glazes, handmade slips, and coloured clays, she has acquired many special techniques to produce the vibrant colours that are necessary for her creations. She has experimented extensively with a broad range of glaze ideas from molten crackle glass colours, oxide applications and smoke fired glazes. This allows her to choose different colours and glaze effects to suit each individual art project.
