Artist Bio
Nichola Dalton hand builds simple, strong, textural forms using stoneware clay. Her vessels provide a blank canvas for her explorations in surface texture, pattern, and colour. Her glaze application process is strongly experimental and spontaneous in approach – the effects are similar but never the same.
Nichola has a background in Fashion and Textile Design. Her degree specialism was Constructed Textile Design and she considers this to be a strong influence in the ceramic work she produces today. Her interest in texture, pattern, colour and structure continues in clay. Nichola has been teaching in Glenwood Primary School since 1997 at Key Stage One where she is the Art & Design coordinator. Last year she led the creation of a body of work by Primary Three children – their exhibition successfully received an Art award from the English Arts Council. In pursuit of her own creative work, she always carries her experiences back into school.
