‘Glasswear’

£350.00

Clare Bowe is interested in the visual language of textiles, its history and value within society, and how it is used within the everyday. She wanted to explore how glass can portray its inherent qualities of both fragility and strength.

She used macrame knotting techniques with fine wire to create an open pliable netting. Hot pulled glass rods are later cut to form rings of glass. They create repetitive patterns representing a binding together of fragments or cycles to form a new whole. This piece can be used, touched, and seen, wrapping our form. Clare wanted to use this tactility and the associations of touch and intimacy with the body to empower the wearer.

Materials: glass, fine wire
