Driftwood Bog Warrior by Aaron Stewart

£370.00

The concept behind the work comes from the bog poems of Seamus Heaney where things have been buried and dug up through time. Aaron wanted to create a body of work that looked ancient or that would look at home in an archaeology site.

He used a mix of hand building techniques as well plaster moulds of found objects. The glaze was the result of many tests using different kinds of organic material that he burned and used to make a wood ash glaze with the purpose of making a body of work that looked ancient.

The concept behind the work comes from the bog poems of Seamus Heaney where things have been buried and dug up through time.  I wanted at the start of this project to create a body of work that looked ancient or that would look at home in an archaeology site.

Fascinated by the link between the past and present, I set out to explore the darker aspects of the human experience from betrayal to death and with this in mind I have created a series called the Driftwood Bog Warrior, based on the idea of an Ancient Warrior that is made up from items cast away into the bogs of Ireland.
