We move so much every day, from the smallest articulation of the wrist to walking or dancing, and I am fascinated by human movement, especially how jewellery can interact with its wearer’s movement in an attractive, interesting and unobtrusive manner. I have posed the question of how

jewellery can react to our movement, or if it can use our movement to interact with something like light.

The ‘Reaction’ brooch reacts to the wearer’s movement in a subtle manner, it is not static but changes its shape as it is worn. Four large dishes and six smaller dishes form the main design of the brooch and each is able to move independently from the others. Every one of the ten small

silver dishes quiver and tremble as the wearer moves, articulating on its own small rivet. This movement allows light to be reflected in different directions from the polished edges of each dish, creating a mesmerising display of reflected light. The square body of the brooch and the

underside of each dish is also polished, allowing yet more light to bounce and reflect off of each component.

The brooch is held via a double pin arrangement on the reverse of the brooch, and is made entirely from 925 Sterling Silver, bearing a UK Hallmark. The brooch measure 30mm x 30mm x 7mm.

The brooch is a very tactile and engaging piece, and each dish will reflect more light and move more dramatically the more the wearer moves. It is a piece which expresses a visual and physical reaction to the wearers movement, an embellishment to every motion; the ‘Reaction’ Brooch.
