Hand Woven Scarves

£150.00

Rosemary McCartney takes part in the exhibition with these hand woven scarves: each one is a one-off journey of fibres, colours and texture, bringing a touch of beauty and warmth to everyday life. The materials used for the warp are Merino, baby Alpaca and silk which has been hand warp and hand dyed. The weft is commercial Mohair and silk; these are woven as a plain weave with the warp used in the weft at one end only to create asymmetrical design.

Artist Bio

Rosemary had a long career at the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum starting as a trainee weaver. After training, she started running workshops there in spinning, weaving and natural dyeing. From these workshops the Ulster Guild of Spinners, Weavers & Dyers was set in 1979.

After leaving the Museum in 2009 she set up her own business ‘Simply Spun’ which she runs from her home in Holywood. Using only natural materials she regularly produces work for exhibition, craft fairs, craft shops and teaching. Notably having pieces displayed at the RDS, National Craft Competition, Dublin and more recently at Ard’s Art Centre and Craft NI Gallery.

Rosemary is dedicated to sharing her craft with others: as well as running private spinning and weaving workshops she facilitates workshops for community groups, private and council run events.
