This necklace is a progression of my Flow range work – extending the boundaries of metals and techniques used, size, colour and shape.

Most of my work to date has been made in silver with gold elements but in this necklace, the use of these ‘non-precious’ red metals allowed me to make my largest piece to date.

When copper based metals are exposed to the elements-  oxygen, rain, acid rain, carbon dioxide, sulphur compounds-  they react by protecting their surface, producing chemical compounds of oxides, carbonates and sulphates.

The  necklace explores some of the possibilities of these natural reactions controlling the exposure of the metals to the elements through the use of heat, salt, acid and sulphur to paint colours and affect the viewer’s perception of the possibilities of these metals.
