Artist Bio
Rauni Higson studied Gold and Silversmithing at the Lahti Design Institute in Finland and then completed her degree in Silversmithing and Jewellery at Birmingham University. She established her studio in Snowdonia in 1997 and is inspired by the mountainous landscape and rugged coastline.
Since 2016 Higson has spear-headed the Contemporary British Silversmiths Skills Training Course which provides members, particularly early-career makers, with the opportunity to attend master classes on a variety of metalwork techniques to develop their skills. In 2021 Higson was the recipient of a QEST Scholarship to develop her skills in flat hammering and tray sinking, and in 2023 was a finalist for the Precious Metalworker of the Year Award organised by the Heritage Craft Association. Higson specialises in hammer-formed silver and creates commissions and sculptural work using traditional techniques responding to the natural world.
