Cascade 2022

£1,800.00

Materials: Porcelain

Dimensions: 31cm x 31cm x 25cm

My working method is intrinsically connected to the act of making and the endless experimentation with the changing state of Parian porcelain. This is accentuated by contrasting differing states and their reaction and interactions with one another throughout the layering process of construction and firing. Cascade explores this relationship between process, material and time. Careful multiple firings of the sculpture result in a solid marble-like base and delicate fabric-like folds. Analogies are created between the reaction of the flowing fragility of the collapsed porcelain to the more solid base, contrasting physical and metaphysical change in the state of being. References are also made to strength/fallibility, balance/tipping points and a state held in time.
