Artist Bio
Alison Lowry is an internationally renowned glass artist living and working from her studio, ‘Schoolhouse Glass’ in Saintfield, Co. Down.
In 2009 she graduated from the Ulster University with a Degree in Art and Design. Since graduation, she has won numerous awards for all aspects of her work, including first prize, ‘Glass Art’ at the Royal Dublin Society in 2009 and 2015, the Warm Glass Prize in 2010 & 2011 and the Bronze Award at Bullseye Glass’ exhibition for emerging artists, ‘Emerge’.
Alison exhibits nationally and internationally, and her work is held in several public and private collections. Her solo exhibition, ‘(A)Dressing Our Hidden Truths’ (2019) is an artistic response to the legacy of Ireland’s mother and baby homes and Magdalene Laundries system and is part of the permanent collection of the National Museum of Ireland.
Increasingly her work is becoming collaboratively based. A current project centres around the inter-generational effects of the trauma of Irelands institutional history. Working with an acclaimed aerial performer and award-winning singer-songwriter, the trio have been commissioned to create an ambitious site-specific response, along with an immersive videoed experience that will resonate for the viewer inside and outside of the traditional gallery space.
